How to join NDA?

NDA Admission Information

National Defence Academy (NDA) is a prestigious and well known Academy. We will shed some light on the selection process of NDA.

NDA grooms students after 12th to serve in defence services like Army, Navy and Air Force to become Officers. The Cadets are prepared and trained at NDA Khadakwasla Campus in Pune.

Requirements to join NDA:

  • Age Limit:

While joining NDA, Candidates age must be between 16.5-19.5 years.

  • Physical Standards:

Minimum Height: 5 ft 4 inch.

Minimum weight: 44 Kg.

  • Educational Qualification:

The student must clear 12th (Science) as Science stream helps to increase your chances of getting selected .This is because Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology is general Group considered in NDA.

  • Entrance Examination:

NDA Written Examination is conducted twice in a year, in the month of April and September .The exam center for students in Maharashtra are Mumbai and Nagpur. NDA Written Examination is of 900 marks, which consists of two objective type (MCQ) Paper.

First Paper

Mathematics (300 Marks)

The mathematics Question Paper is of 300 marks and consists of 120 questions. The Syllabus of 11th, 12th State Board /CBSE is referred. In order to clear this exam, students are tested for their logic and decision making, with the help of Mathematics.

You must solve at least 75 questions with right answers and score 180-200 marks to clear the mathematics exam. (Cutoff Marks are Subject to Change.)


Second Paper (GAT)

General Ability Test (600 marks)

A) English-50 Questions -200 Marks

    English Question Paper has 11th and 12th based    Grammatical Objective type questions, each question carries 4 marks. But most of the students don’t give enough attention towards English and only towards PCM/PCB groups. It is highly advisable to students that they prepare for English from beginning of 11th and keep increasing their vocabulary.

B) Science-50 questions-200 marks

        The question paper of science consists of 11th and 12th based Physics, Chemistry and Biology. Therefore, basic Knowledge of these subjects is necessary for NDA. Also the science question paper for NDA is easy as compared to that of JEE/NEET. Basic study of 8th, 9th and 10th Science is recommended.

C) History, Geography, Political Science, Economics, General Knowledge-200 marks    

  Study of Objective type of Questions from 9th and 10th History, Geography books is mandatory.

Best technique for G.K. study

   Current affairs of National and International level in past 6 months, like Appointments, Awards and Prizes, Name of various types of Sports & their winners should be known to the students. This is a great way to prepare for General Knowledge.

SSB Interview-900 Marks

      SSB Interview must be cracked to join NDA. Students who crack SSB Interview must undergo Medical Test, after which Merit list is made and students get to choose whether they want to join Army, Navy or Air Force. NDA training and B.Sc. graduation is done simultaneously.70% studies and 30% Officer Training is done in NDA.
